Dr Anna Choczaj-Kukula

Dr Anna Kukula MD PhD has been the head of Dermatology Department at Jersey General Hospital since the beginning of 2017. She is also the lead of Skin Cancer Multidisciplinary Team.

Previously, Dr Kukula was working as a Consultant Dermatologist at several teaching hospitals in London, including St John’s Institute of Dermatology at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals, the Royal Free NHS Trust and in the private Skin Care Network in Barnet.

Dr Kukula completed her medical training at the Medical University of Lodz in Poland and later specialised as a Consultant in Dermatology following her family’s tradition; her mother has been practicing dermatology for over 40 years. After extensive research in the field of autoimmune diseases, Dr Kukula completed her PhD in Medicine.

Dr Kukula is a member of British Association of Dermatologists, Royal Society of Medicine, American Academy of Dermatology and European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology. She has written for key medical textbooks and published a number of articles in peer reviewed international journals.

Dr Kukula has a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of skin cancers and pre-cancerous conditions. Dr Kukula was trained in dermatoscopy and skin cancers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.

How does it work?

Please call the Secretary of Dr Kukula at 07797 777730 or e-mail her at booking@dermatology.je to book a Tele-Dermatology Video Consultation. Please fill in the registration form indictating your preferred video communication platform (WhatsApp, Skype or FaceTime). Please provide a referral letter from your GP or a short description of your skin problem if no referral is available. Please note that not all skin problems can be addressed through remote consultations.

We will book an appointment for you and send you a confirmation e-mail/ text message. If you have medical insurance, please verify with your insurance company if your telemedicine consultation with Dr Kukula will be paid for in full. This has been the case for AXA and Aviva; however, other insurance companies may have different policies in which case you will have to pay for the consultation yourself. For self-paying patients we will send you an invoice which you can pay online or on the phone.

You may share any other relevant medical documents or clinical pictures with Dr Kukula prior to your consultation by e-mailing them to booking@dermatology.je. We recommend using encrypted e-mails via Egress Switch application for any sensitive medical records or pictures. Please always mention your name in the Subject field.
 
On the date of your consultation Dr Kukula will call you on the address/ number you provided. Please ensure you have good video quality and plenty of light. It might be useful to test your audio and video link first with your family or friends. The consultations typically last 15 to 20 minutes.
 
Dr Kukula will decide if a follow-up consultation in person is necessary. She will recommend any additional laboratory tests or other medical interventions as appropriate. Dr Kukula will send your prescriptions to one of the local pharmacies so you, your relative or friend can collect the medication for you.
 
You and your GP will receive a clinical letter following the consultation.
